The biggest couch by the fire is occupied.

The person sprawling there is wearing a purple velvet dress with short puffed sleeves and a long, heavy skirt. A rather attractive pair of feet, in sheer black stockings, are crossed at the ankle and propped up on one arm of the couch; the head leaning against the other arm has shoulder-length brown curls streaked with fading green, tucked back behind one ear to reveal a small pearl earring. No makeup. A glass of whiskey in one hand, a small bag of jelly beans in the other, and a pair of black shoes with low wedge heels perched on a couch cushion beside the feet they presumably came off of.

Tony snickers and pretends to catch it out of the air.

He laughs again, fondly.

"Don't get too cocky."

[gunpowdergelatine]

"Who, me? I would never."

Tony's snicker suggests that he does not believe this at all.

"Well, I just can't fool you at all, can I."

[smokeandstreets]

"Be pretty dumb of me to say yes or no to that one, wouldn't it?" Tony points out as they step outside. It's late afternoon out here, with the sun slanting down and sparkling off the lake, and the evening's chill not yet set in.

Cheerfully, swishing his skirt as he walks: "Anyway, you fool yourself without my help."

". . . What's that supposed to mean?"

[gunpowdergelatine]

"You still don't think I was the Joker," he points out.

[smokeandstreets]

"Nope."

[gunpowdergelatine]

He spreads his hands.

"Fooling yourself."

[smokeandstreets]

He rolls his eyes.

"I don't remember the Joker hooking, man."

But that's just because he read the wrong comics. Or possibly they haven't been written yet.

"Shows what you fuckin' know. What do you think I did with my life before I started robbing banks?"

[smokeandstreets]

". . . Huh," Tony says, blinking. "I dunno."

[gunpowdergelatine]

"Now you do."

[smokeandstreets]

"Sorry, man."

[gunpowdergelatine]

"What for?"

[smokeandstreets]

"Most people ain't hooking 'cause it's their favorite thing to do."

Except possibly the Dylandy boys.

"Yeah." He grins wryly. "Wasn't then; am now."

"So what's the market like where you are, dead man?"

[gunpowdergelatine]

"Lot of sadists," he says, laughing.

[smokeandstreets]

He wrinkles his nose. "Great."

[gunpowdergelatine]

"But, y'know, I play to every crowd I can get. I just got a special place in my heart for the boys'n'girls who'll fuck me with a shotgun."

... Tony makes kind of a O.o face.
